Links

I took this page down awhile ago because before it was just a page linking to random things and most of the links were dead. Then I realised that, although this isn't the most popular site on the web, I still get a decent amount of traffic and I might as well use this links page for a better purpose than just "Hey, this page is cool, you should check it out." So this page will be dedicated to links to some organisations that I feel deserve even the meager spotlight I can provide. I know lots of people don't like having unpleasant situations shoved into their faces, so feel free to click the "menu" button at the bottom of the page to return to the contents page, or just click here for the walkthroughs section. For the rest of you, feel free to check out the sites listed below.
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was the first humane society to be established in North America. Headquartered in New York City, every day they work hard to save animals from cruelty and abandonment. If you feel so inclined, please check out their website and if you can, please donate to their cause, or look up your local SPCA chapter if you want to make a difference in your immediate community. And if you're looking for a pet, please check out your local animal shelter before going to a pet store.
Pitbulls are one of the most maligned breed of dogs in America. The name comes from the fact that they are put into a ring or "pit" to fight eachother for the entertainment of humans. The media has taken all of the stories of fighting pitbulls attacking people to label the entire breed as malicious, dangerous, or just plain dangerous. As a result, pitbulls are one of the top dogs found in animal shelters and the top dog in the US to be put down. Some counties have even gone so far as to ban the breed entirely, and subsequently pick up any pitbulls owned by residents of the county and destroy the family's beloved pet. In reality, according to dog fighters themselves, it is very hard to find a pitbull puppy even in a litter bred from fighting dogs that is willing to fight. This is because the breed is in fact generally very eager to please their owners. One pitbull-type breed, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, has even earned the nickname Nanny Dog because of how protective they are of children. In fact, it is the German shepherd heads the canine list as the number one biter. Vicious pitbulls become that way because of being trained by their owners to be that way.

Shorty's rescue is based in Los Angeles and is dedicated to bringing awareness of the true nature of the breed and the rescue of pitbulls. The Animal Planet show "Pit Boss" showcases this rescue. Please check out his site and if you have the money to do so, please donate to his cause.
Villalobos Rescue Center Another pitbull rescue that has recently moved to New Orleans. Showcased on Animal Planet's "Pitbulls and Parolees," Tia Torres and her team is dedicated to rescuing and adopting out the breed. If you can, please check out her site and donate if possible.
If you managed to read through this entire page, thanks for taking the time to read about these great organisations who are trying to make a difference. *gets down off of soapbox*
