Weapons and Ammo

So, what's a shoot-em-up game without a crapload of guns to acquire? The cool thing about RE4 is that, not only is there a creepy flasher dude with a mask and some weird accent who serves as your friendly neighbourhood black market gun merchant (whom I've nicknamed Raziel for strange reasons), but he'll also upgrade your current weapon, for a price of course. As he's not got a Spanish accent, one can only imagine he's trying to single-handedly overthrow the Spanish government. Or he's just testing the boundaries granted by diplomatic immunity... either way, he is your best friend in this game. He shows up in different areas throughout the game, possibly cause he's a creepy stalker. You'll know he's nearby when you see some pedestals with blue fire in them. Here's a list of all the weapons, ammo, and tuneups available in the game (including new round games). Merch is pictured on the left, Raziel (from Soul Reaver) on the right. You can't tell me they don't look alike! Anyway, moving on... He'll sell you weaps, ammo, and tune-ups for pesetas, and you can also sell weapons you no longer wish to keep to him as well, or other items that are taking too much space in your prissy French briefcase (attaché case). But what Razzy here is REALLY after, are TREASURES. You know, that seemingly random crap you keep finding everywhere, like rings and lamps and pipes and whatnot (a list of these and where they can be found are on the Special Items page linked at the top of this page). He'll pay a pretty decent sum for some of this otherwise worthless (to you anyway) junk. Also, keep in mind that, with any merchant in any game, Razzy will pay a lot less for, say, Item A, than you'd have to pay him when you're buying Item A, so selling things back to him isn't exactly the best business model you could have. Another thing to keep in mind is that Razzy here can be killed, by either enemies, or yourself. And no, you can't raid his corpse for cool stuff. If he does die, he will never appear in that location again (although he'll still show up in other locations...).

Alright, now on to a bit of terminology (what is this, a game or a dictionary??). Firepower refers to, well, damage done by the weapon. Your default weapon (handgun), with no tuneups, has a firepower of 1.0. Any other firepower number for any other weapon, or tuneups on the same weapon, is based off of this number. So, if a weapon has, say, a firepower of 2.0 then it is twice as powerful as your default, unmodded handgun. Firing Speed is the time between shots. When firing a real gun in real life, each gun has a recoil factor, which is when the gun bounces up because of the kinetic energy released from the shot, and prevents you from firing another shot right away. Why this is necessary in a game, I don't know :op blame realism. Anyway, the number in this column refers to this recoil factor, and the smaller the number, the better. Some weapons, however, can't be modified to have a shorter firing speed. Reload speed, obviously, is the time it takes Leon to reload his weapon when it runs out of bullets. The number here is calculated in FPS (Frames Per Second, not First Person Shooter :op ), i.e., the number of frames that it takes slow old Leon to reload. This may take only a few seconds, but a few seconds can mean the difference between life and death for Leon, so make sure to reload away from enemies, and try to always reload after a battle. The smaller this number is, the better for you and Leon. Capacity refers to the number of bullets the weapon can hold, and therefore how many bullets Leon can shoot before having to stop to reload. In this case, the bigger the better (despite your motion in the ocean).
